Support of excavation system design for a new multi-story building in Queens, NY.
Support of excavation system designed for a new multi-story building in Queens, NY. The excavation depth ranged between 20-30 feet. Soldier piles braced with hollow-bar grouted tiebacks were installed in lieu of steel rakers. Tieback braced tangent piles were used adjacent to a (1) story building to increase rigidity and prevent settlement. The use of tiebacks allowed the excavation site to remain clear of obstructions during the foundation installation. Close review of the existing utility survey and test pit investigation of adjacent foundations were key in avoiding below grade structures during tieback installation. We performed special inspections during SOE installation and tieback testing.
